Yes! I made another illustration for Illustration Friday, just in time! I’m surprised (happily) at myself! I’ve been pretty good with deadlines lately, and I hope the trend continues. But it’s not just a trend, I’ve actually had to work extra hard to stay in the game. But it’s paying off. What makes work meaningful is the relationship between work and reward. If you can see the fruits of your labor, its all worth it.
On that note, this was my idea for “Pattern”. I don’t know if you can see it, but I inserted binary code into the branches and leaves. I was playing with the idea that DNA is essentially code, and someday in the future we’ll be able to “program” and “write” plants and animals, and perhaps humans, as easily as we write a computer program. I don’t think this is a fantasy: I think there are many people out there who are willing to make it a reality. Whether or not that is a good idea, we’ve yet to see, but I have no doubt it will happen, or at least, there will attempts at it.
So, basically, there are patterns in all lifeforms, even computers :)
(This was made with watercolors and colored pencils on watercolor paper, about A4 size).

After a long hiatus due to my summer break, I’m back with an entry for Illustration Friday’s topic of the week, “Infinite”. I actually made this years ago, but I felt it fit for the topic. I wish I remembered how I made it ( I was experimenting with Photoshop’s brushes, trying to make original textures), and I came up with this. I love it because it makes me think of outer space, and I LOVE outer space. I’m fascinated by what could be out there, and the thought of the universe being infinite…How can anything be infinite? Things can be big, huge, but limitless? It’s such an abstract idea that it’s nearly impossible to imagine. Only one thing rings true when I think about infinity and, as cheesy as it may sound, it’s love. Of the things I know that exist in nature, love is the only thing I can conceive being limitless. Everything else has a beginning and an end, but love, like the universe, has no boundaries.
I hope I can keep up with IF this semester, I always make the resolution to do it weekly, but always fail. Maybe that’s the constant: to change the routine all the time. In the end, the only thing that does not change, is that there is always change.

Like the first lines of the Tenacious D song, “Lee” say:
“Lee, Lee, Lee, Lee,
Lee Lee Lee Lee Lee Lee Lee Lee Lee,
We’re talkin’ fuckin’ Lee!”
Hahaha, I just had to put that there :p On the same note of drawing mini portraits of people I know, this time I drew my friend Lee Ai Ling. She is also from Malaysia, and is an AMAZING photographer (hence the camera in her hand). Seriously, she’s great, her pictures should be on National Geographic. But she’s also a great friend and has a great sense of style, specially for bags :) Thanks for being so cool, Ai Ling! :D

Made a profile drawing of my friend Chen. She’s a very nice, fun, awesome girl from Malaysia and it’s always fun to hang out with her because she’s totally crazy (haha, in a good way!) . Just a little homage to my good friend who always lets me stay in her cozy apartment whenever I’m in Tokyo. Thanks again Chenski! Love and hugs to you~
