Went to see this with friends, knowing absolutely nothing about the movie previously. 20 minutes into the film, my jaw dropped and stayed down the entire time. A MUST.

Fui a ver esta película con amigos sin saber nada acerca de ella previamente. 20 minutos después de haber comenzado, me quede boquiabierta y me quedé así casi por el resto del filme. Un MUST de verdad.

Dammit, this movie made me cry like a baby whilst sitting in the middle seat in the middle row of a full airplane. A MUST see (bring the kleenex).
Maldita sea, esta película me hizo llorar como bebé mientras estaba sentada en el asiento del medio en la fila del medio dentro de un avión que iba full. Un MUST (no olviden los pañuelos).
I though I wouldn’t like this because of Timberlake, but he’s soon forgotten as the movie picks up and the whole plot sucks you in. I have to say, brilliant idea but not so great execution. If they had given this film to Ridley Scott or even Fincher, maybe we could have seen a cult classic, but nevertheless, a good (enough) movie with a really good message.
Pensé que no me iba a gustar por que esta Timberlake, pero me olvidé de el muy rápido cuando la trama comenzó a atraparme. Tengo que decirlo, la idea es brillante, pero la ejecución del proyecto: no tanto. Si se la hubiesen dado a Ridley Scott o incluso a Fincher, a lo mejor tendríamos en nuestras manos a un clásico de culto, pero aun así, es una buena película (lo suficiente, al menos), con un muy buen mensaje.
Don’t know why I feel like listening to this song over and over. Probably because it deals with human cruelty (something I’m always thinking about) / No sé porque me dan ganas de escuchar esto una y otra vez. Quizá porque trata sobre la crueldad humana (y me la paso pensando en eso).
For me this was a horror movie. It scared me in the way that I truly get scared: through feasible scenarios rather than supernatural beings and superstitions. Even though it was over-dramatized, something like that could really happen, and what scares me the most is how people would react. That, and zombies (though this movie pretty much lays out like one as well).
Para mi esta película fue una película de horror. Esta película me dio miedo de verdad, porque es una situación posible, en vez de basada en supersticiones o elementos sobrenaturales como vampiros o demonios. Aunque obviamente es una dramatización, algo así puede suceder en realidad y lo que mas miedo me da es como reaccionaria la gente. Como zombies (y esta película en cierta manera se parece a una película de zombies).
I want to start cataloguing the songs I listen to throughout the year, but to start with, I made a short list of the songs I listened to the most in 2011 (at least from what I can remember) / Quiero comenzar a catalogar las canciones que más escucho durante el año, pero para comenzar, hice una pequeña lista de las canciones que más escuche en el 2011 (o las que me recuerdo):
1. “America” – Razorlight
Heard this on online radio and it just stuck. I must have replayed this a million times while drawing my Master’s Degree Project. / La escuché por internet y se me pegó. Creo que la escuché como un millón de veces mientras dibujaba mi proyecto final para el masters.
2. “The Double” – We Fell to Earth
I like the drumming bassline / Me gusta el fondo y el bajo.
3. “Lisztomania” – Phoenix
Also heard it on online radio, and got hooked on the band / También la escuché en internet y por consecuencia, terminé fan de la banda.
4. “Transatlanticism” – Death Cab for Cutie
Yeah, I know…I’m a sappy fool sometimes / Si, si, lo sé…soy una romántica cursi a veces.
5. “Rossiya” – Laibach
A friend got me hooked on this band, through this song (I’ll review the band itself later), but this song is incredibly beautiful and powerful as a political message as well. Very clever work by a band that likes to “push buttons” / Una amiga me introdujo a esta banda a través de esta canción (haré un review the la banda luego), pero en cuanto a la canción en sí, es hermosa y a la vez un mensaje político muy ingenuoso. Excelente trabajo de una banda a la que le gusta “presionar botones”.
6. “Folklore” – Opeth
Opeth is one of my favorite bands of all time, so anything they put out, I love by default. I liked “Heritage” (though not more than “My Arms, Your Hearse” which is my favorite of their albums), but this song stuck out from the list. It becomes EPIC at min. 6:00 / Esta banda es de mis favoritas, asi que cualquier cosa que saquen, la adoro. Me gusto mucho “Heritage” (aunque no más que “My Arms, Your Hearse”, mi álbum favorito de ellos), pero ésta canción se distinguió para mi de entre la lista. Se vuelve ÉPICA en el minuto 6:00.
7. “The First Snowfall” – Blockhead
Started listening to this at the beginning of winter. It seemed to fit the mood. / Comencé a escucharla a principios del invierno. Sentí que encajaba.
8. “Unless I’m Led” – Mates of State
Heard it though the show “Ringer“, and was like :O! / La escuché en el programa de TV “Ringer“, y me quedé :O!
9. “God’s Gonna Cut You Down” – Costanza
Also heard it on “Ringer” (Same episode) / También la escuché en “Ringer” (mismo episodio).
10. “Electromovimiento” – Calle 13
It came on the radio when a friend gave me a ride home and I just loved it at the first “toca,toca,toca…” / Sonó en la radio cuando un pana me daba la cola hacia mi casa, y la amé al primer “toca, toca, toca…”
11. “I Wanna be Adored” – The Stone Roses
This will forever remind me of December 2011 in Caracas. Thanks to the friend that hooked me on to this amazing band ♥ / Esta canción me recordará siempre el diciembre del 2011 en Caracas. Gracias al pana que me introdujo a esta banda tan buena ~
12. “On-Air” – VNV Nation
Another of my favorite bands of all time. This is from their latest album, “Automatic“, but it went mostly unnoticed by me ’till a friend explained that it’s basically an audio representation of the Stages of Life itself. After that, I couldn’t not listen to it with chills down my spine. / Otra de mis bandas favoritas de todos los tiempos. Está es de su álbum mas reciente, “Automatic“, pero pasó desapercibida por mi hasta que my mejor amigo me explicó que es basicamente una representación auditiva de las Fases de la Vida misma. Después de tal explicación, no puedo dejar de escucharla sin escalofríos en mi espalda.

I only heard about this movie through the oscar buzz, but I’m glad I watched it, because it’s a really good movie in a very understated kind of way. It’s a B-list movie, and I loved the neo-noir retro feel (made me think of “Taxi Driver” and “Lost Highway”) and all those dark, mysterious movies with awesome synth-pop soundtracks. This movie feels like it was made 20 years ago, and somehow travelled in time to make it here. The plot isn’t that original or creative, but it was the mood of the film that made me enjoy it the most. Definitely worth watching if only for the nostalgic experience.
Me enteré acerca de esta película por medio de los rumores acerca del Oscar, pero me alegra haberla visto, porque es una muy buena película que paso desapercibida por ser una “B-list movie” (película de 2da clase). Pero no tiene nada de 2da clase en mi opinión. Comenzando con el feeling de neo-noir que tiene (me recordó mucho a películas como “Taxi Driver” y “Lost Highway”) y todas esas películas oscuras y misteriosas con soundtracks arrechisimos de melodías pop sintetizadas. Esta película se siente como si hubiese sido hecha hace 20 años y de alguna manera viajo en el tiempo hasta ahora. La trama no es original ni tan creativa, pero fue mas que todo el ambiente y tono de la película lo que mas me agrado. Definitivamente vale la pena verla, si acaso solo por la experiencia de nostalgia.
This movie made me actually care about baseball. I don’t mind baseball movies, but there aren’t many movies out there that don’t fall into clichés and corniness, that are realistic AND romantic about the game. This is one is. Of course, I suppose it’s because its based on a true story… but that’s probably what drew me to it, the fact that magic can happen in the middle of the murkiness that is real life. Definitely a MUST watch. Also, Brad Pitt’s performance here is probably the best in his entire career.
Esta película hizo que me interesara sobre un tema que generalmente no acapara mi atención: el béisbol. Es un tema súper redundante en la cultura venezolana, y la verdad me fastidian los chichés al respecto, pero esta película me hizo ver el juego desde una perspectiva diferente y darme cuenta que si existe “magia” en el juego, aunque esta sea difícil de percibir a través de toda la parafernalia balurda que rodea este deporte. Quizá me gusto tanto por que esta basada en una historia real, y esa son las películas que mas me gustan. Esta en un MUST definitivamente, además que Brad Pitt da la que es quizá la mejor actuación de toda su carrera.
This was super recommender to me by a lot of friends, and I’m glad I watched it, it’s a great movie. I knew I’d like it based just on the actors: Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are two of my favorite ones in general. But I think what I liked the most about the movie was the way they handled the topic of cancer, with humor and straighfowardness. I wish most people would handle stuff like that IRL, so it was refreshing to see it in this movie. Also, great music (Radiohead’s “High and Dry” was in there) and “Yellow Ledbetter” at the end was a nice touch.
Esta fue una recomendación de mucha gente y me alegra haberles hecho caso y haberla visto. Es un excelente película. Supe que me gustaría solamente basando en los actores: Seth Rogen y Joseph Gordon-Levitt son de mis favoritos en general. Pero lo que mas me gusto es como manejaron el tema del cáncer: con humor y sin indirectas. Siempre me han caído bien las personas que manejan las cosas de esa manera en la vida real, así que me gusto mucho ver este método de ver y hacer las cosas en esta película. Ademas, tiene un muy buen soundtrack (“High and Dry” de Radiohead hizo una aparición por ahí) y “Yellow Ledbetter” al final fue un muy buen toque.

That, and I’ve been pretty discontent with their service – it’s not really that good and it really does feel like all they want is just your money. There’s much better options out there for hosting, but since I’m a bit tight on cash right now, I decided to just go back to free blogs for the time being. And since WordPress is such a great place, awesome support and all, I migrated to their free option blogs (I already owned one, all I did was just import all my content back to my free blog). All that’s left is to switch my domain name to it, but that’s gonna have to wait a bit…but at least this year I’m saying good buy to those money-grubbing a$$holes.
This year I finally managed (right in the nick of time!) to make an Xmas card for 2011. And not just that, but in 3 different languages! So, to all of you who have been so kind to stop by my site at some point, I wish you a very merry Xmas and a 2012 full of great surprises (such as, no, the world won’t end! haha)
